Artist’s Statement

There is overwhelming evidence that many of the wild and beautiful places on this earth are vanishing.   Even the places that  have been set aside as protected islands - such as our national parks and forests, wildlife refuges and state parks - are being overwhelmed as a result of commercial and residential development, increased recreational use and lack of funding for maintenance and upkeep. Millions of people worldwide share a common concern about the implications of this habitat loss.   Along with other landscape and wildlife photographers, I hope to raise awareness of the spectacular natural beauty around us and to encourage preservation, conservation and responsible usage. The images I've included on this site may help accomplish this objective.  The viewer who wants to know more about these critical issues can find information at many web sites and in many publications. Two of special interest to me are the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative and the Wilderness Society.

All of the images on this site were captured with Nikon 35 mm format or digital equipment, primarily  the D1x and D2x digital SLR's using a variety of Nikon and Sigma lenses.  Where applicable, slides have been scanned using a Canon FS4000US and stored as digital files for web use and printing.  Any prints you may order from this site will be high quality archival digital prints. They will  be considerably more detailed with more accurate color than the small, low-resolution web images can show.

The gray owl image used in the logo is courtesy of renowned nature photographer Tim Fitzharris and comes from his recent book, Rocky Mountains: Wilderness Reflections. More information about Tim's work can be found at his web site, http://www.timfitzharris.com.
